How much does a wedding videographer cost?
You could *probably* find a very new or inexperienced wedding videographer for a couple of hundred pounds. Though, as a wedding film and photographs will likely be your only physical keepsake from your big day, I wouldn’t recommend scrimping in this area. Will you think back fondly on those beautiful chair covers that you spent all that money on 10 years after you’re married? Or, will you be watching your video together and reminiscing over those precious moments that could be long forgotten had they not been captured on film?
A budget of around £1000 is a good starting point for an experienced and skilled videographer to capture the highlights of your wedding day. Anything more detailed and you could be running into several thousands. A wedding film is definitely an area to splurge. Being able to relive the most important day of your life over and over again has to be worth the investment to save those precious memories forever.
What am I paying my wedding videographer for?
Other than the hours that your wedding videographer will be there on your wedding day: also consider the many hours (days) that will go into editing your film afterwards. The professional equipment and software used could run in to the 10s of thousands. Your videographer will also have insurances to pay for. As well as a long list of other costs that go into running a business. There will also be travel time/costs to consider and time spent communicating (all those emails and phone calls take time to answer). Many videographers will invest in their skills by attending training courses and developing themselves in order to deliver the very best film possible. A videographer charging pennies for all day coverage simply couldn’t run a sustainable business. Worse still, they may have cut corners with insurances, equipment etc.
How do I find a great wedding videographer?
Price does play a part. You might be lucky and and find find a videographer charging a tiny price that provides an exceptional service with a stunning film. Likewise, a more expensive videographer may over-value their mediocre work. It’s all about doing your research. Watch lots of wedding fil, shortlist the ones you like and then read through their reviews. Do they have a professional looking website? have they got lots of shining reviews and can they provide proof of insurances? If they’re ticking all the boxes, have a conversation with them. Do you click? Do they understand what is most important to you? If you’ve done your research and still have a good feeling about your videographer, you’ve probably picked a good one!
I’m very camera shy, will I look awkward on film?
I have lots of brides (and some grooms) tell me their worries of being camera shy. I reassure all my couples that this is absolutely normal. A skilled videographer won’t be in your personal space making you feel self-conscious on your day. I like to blend in and capture those candid, natural moments between a bride, groom and their guests, without imposing on the emotions and ambience of the day. I will also chat with you before the big day to understand any Insecurities. This will ensure your wedding film shows you in the amazing way that you will look and feel on your wedding day. And don’t worry, any mid-sneeze or unfortunate chewing-with-mouth-open footage won’t make the final film.
Final take-away when deciding whether to hire a wedding videographer
Your wedding day will be incredible, but it will also be over in a flash. What if someone said to you ‘Icould give you the opportunity to relive the day and all the most precious moments, time and time again’? You’d snap their hand off, wouldn’t you?’ Don’t be left with-post wedding regrets. Take the time to choose a fantastic wedding videographer. I’m sure it’ll be one of the best decisions you will make for your wedding day.
